Description:

"Venus Presenting Arms to Aeneas" is a mythological scene drawn from Virgil’s Aeneid. The central moment depicts Venus, the Roman goddess of love and mother to the Trojan hero Aeneas, bestowing divine weapons upon her son. These arms, forged by Vulcan, symbolize Aeneas’s divine mission and destiny to found what will become the Roman Empire. The composition is lush and theatrical: Venus is shown seated, graceful and radiant, her gesture soft and maternal as she addresses Aeneas. Aeneas, dressed as a noble warrior, stands poised and attentive, his stance embodying both strength and reverence. Surrounding them are mythological figures—perhaps nymphs and cupids—who animate the scene with fluid motion and opulent detail. In the foreground, an infant Cupid lounges, a subtle nod to love’s omnipresence.
