It is an oil on canvas painting from August-September 1886. The painting depicts a bouquet of colorful flowers, including pink, red, white, and yellow asters and gladioli, arranged in a dark vase against a dark red background. Some loose flowers are scattered on the blue surface in front of the vase. Van Gogh used contrasting colors and thick brushstrokes, influenced by Adolphe Monticelli, to create a vibrant and textured still life.
