Description:

This painting depicts the Pietà, a scene of the Virgin Mary cradling the lifeless body of Jesus Christ after the crucifixion. Mary, dressed in dark robes and a white veil, looks down with sorrow at Jesus, whose pale body lies across her lap. The background shows Golgotha with three crosses, and a crowd of figures, some on horseback, receding into the distance. The foreground is a rocky landscape leading to a sepulcher-like structure.
