Description:

The painting portrays the Nativity scene with the newborn Christ Child lying on a bed of straw in the lower left corner. The infant Jesus is depicted unclothed, radiating a gentle light. Kneeling in adoration beside him is the Virgin Mary, her hands clasped in prayer, her gaze directed downwards towards her son. She wears a dark blue mantle with a gold-patterned border over a red and gold dress, and a light-colored veil. A golden halo encircles her head. Behind Mary, to the right, sits Saint Joseph, depicted as an older man with grey hair and a beard. He is wrapped in a yellow-orange cloak and appears to be in a state of quiet contemplation or perhaps dozing. A helmet rests near him on the ground, a detail sometimes associated with Joseph in Nativity scenes.
