Description:

In this dramatic and moving scene, Jesus Christ appears to Saint Peter on the road outside Rome, carrying His cross. The encounter captures the moment when Peter, fleeing persecution, sees the risen Christ and asks, "Domine, quo vadis?" ("Lord, where are you going?"). Jesus’ expression is serene yet firm, embodying divine purpose as He points the way forward. His crown of thorns and the heavy cross recall His sacrifice, while His flowing red robe symbolizes martyrdom and love. Peter, clothed in a vivid blue and gold robe, recoils in awe and shame, emphasizing the human fear and hesitation contrasted against divine resolve.
