Description:

The painting depicts the biblical scene of the Baptism of Christ by John the Baptist. Jesus stands in the center of the composition, partially submerged in a stream or river. He is depicted with long brown hair and a beard, his hands clasped in prayer at his chest. A simple, reddish-brown cloth is draped around his waist. A golden halo encircles his head, signifying his divinity. To the right of Jesus stands John the Baptist, who is in the act of pouring water over Christ's head with a shallow dish. John is depicted as a lean figure with a tan complexion, wearing a dark garment covered by a light pink or white draped cloth. He holds a long staff topped with a cross in his left hand, a traditional attribute of John the Baptist. A golden halo also adorns his head.
