Description:

The painting depicts the biblical scene of the Annunciation. The Virgin Mary is shown kneeling on the left side of the composition in what appears to be a humble interior. She is dressed in a red garment covered by a blue mantle, her hands clasped in a gesture of prayer and acceptance. Her gaze is directed upwards towards the divine light and the descending Holy Spirit. Opposite her, on the right, kneels the Archangel Gabriel. He is depicted with large, feathered wings and wears a flowing yellow and pink robe. Gabriel extends a lily, a symbol of purity, towards Mary with his right hand, while his left hand gestures towards the heavens. His expression is one of reverence and announcement.
